When we walk as a group we usually nominate a “Captain”. This is usually the person who conceived of the walk but it can also be the one who has more local knowledge of an area. The role of the Captain is to have final say. For example, if other members differ as to which way to go the Captain weighs up the situation and makes the call. It’s understood that the others fall in line. However, the captain must of course consider the needs and abilities of whoever is in the group and is not above mutiny!
